Welcome to EHCAC's Website!
The Erie-Huron Counties Community Action Commission, Inc. (EHCAC) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to coordinating methods of removing the economically disadvantaged population of Erie and Huron counties from poverty. In 1965 EHCAC was established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 when President Johnson launched the "War on Poverty" when we became chartered by Ohio's Secretary of State.
In addition, we are a $4.6+ million dollar agency which is funded to operate such programs as:
- Community Service Block Grant (CSBG)
- Emergency Shelter Grant Program (ESGP)
- Erie and Huron Counties Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (FEMA)
- Federal Head Start
- Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
- Summer Crisis Cooling Program
- Erie County Senior Emergency Home Repair Program
- Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
- Erie County Senior Transportation
- Parents as Teachers
As the anti-poverty agency governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees that represents public, private, and clientele sectors of both Erie and Huron counties we continue to be committed to our mission:
"To promote self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of those in need."
